加拿大簽證申請中心在台北開幕

加拿大駐台北貿易辦事處很榮幸宣布，加拿大簽證申請中心從11月7日(週四)在台北開始運作，位於便利的台北市信義區松仁路97號交易廣場二7樓A室。

加拿大簽證申請中心會在簽證和移民申請者送件和加拿大公民移民部審核評估的之前，期間和之後，提供相關的行政支援服務，簽證申請中心將接受學生和工作許可，短期停留簽證以及永久居民旅行證的申請。

該 中心的基本工作就是接受簽證申請，相關文件和銀行繳費收據，並以可靠安全的方式代轉給加拿大在香港的領事館。中心也會將完成處理的申請文件返還予申請人， 必要時安排面試並提供其他需收費的服務，如拍照和協助申請人影印文件等。加拿大簽證申請中心將無涉任何簽證核發與否的決定過程，也未被授權針對簽證申請提 供何諮商。

加拿大駐台北貿易辦事處馬凱琳代表說，”新的簽證中心是個令人振奮的發展，將能使簽證申請流程更加順暢並使前往加拿大旅行更便 利。” 她表示:” 這個中心的成立，展現加拿大政府提升程序效率和改善服務的努力，也使我們的國家比以往更具有吸引大家前往造訪的誘因”。每年都有數以萬計的台灣人利用加拿 大免簽優惠前往觀光，也有許多人前往加拿大移民，求學，工作和經商。簽證處理中心將可確保簽證的申請流程完備，並協助降低不必要的延誤。
從2013年11月7日開始，申請人將可透過線上申請系統或加拿大簽證申請中心，遞交其短期居留(包括訪客簽證，學生和工作許可)和永久居民旅行證的申請。

簽證申請中心是由國際性私人公司或組織所經營，旨在提供申請人由加拿大政府授權的特殊服務。中心與加拿大政府簽約，提供標準化的服務並在政府的嚴格監督下運作，以確保其服務品質。

雜事清單

將簽證文件寄出去後，好像一時半刻沒有很緊急的事情要辦，就有時間好好想想在出國前要準備/處理哪些東西。說實在，身為"想太多"女王，對於"to do list"可能跟一般人不太一樣。尤其加拿大對我而言，幾乎為一個全然陌生的國度，只知道很"靠北"的國家都很冷...

總之，我的雜事清單如下：

1. 訂機票
2. 確認住宿問題
3. 確認吃飯問題
4. 確認保險問題
5. 哪裡可以買到便宜的上課用書/二手家具
6. 生活項目:開戶/辦手機/生活用品/保養品/衣服/交通....

看起來好像就幾項而已，但裡頭可以參雜了很多問題咧...例如說到處都買得到隱形眼鏡嗎?買得到日拋或是洗隱形眼鏡藥水嗎?國外的衛生棉好用嗎?有文具用品店嗎?在多倫多買3C產品會比在台灣便宜嗎....等之類的白痴問題...

話說到現在，我還是只遇到一位跟我一樣要去Schulich的台灣同學，難道大家都很低調...還是其實亞洲同學都在印度...@@

第一次購買匯票(Bank Draft)

因為要辦加拿大學生簽證，才有機會購買匯票(金融白痴...)香港辦事處提供的付費方式中，我選擇了Bank draft，也就是銀行票據或稱匯票。在此之前，匯票是什麼鬼東西完全沒有概念，但買過之後，覺得還挺簡單的耶~

以下是香港辦事處有關繳費的規定：

Payment must be in Canadian or Hong Kong dollars. No other currency will be accepted. Please note that cash and personal cheques will NOT be accepted.
Acceptable methods of payment are:
--financial instruments such as cashier’s cheque, certified cheque, bank draft or money order payable to "Canadian Consulate General"
--EPS direct debit (local bank cards only) for payments made in person only.

Note 1: If payment is made by financial instruments in Hong Kong dollars, the payee bank must be located in Hong Kong. Payment in Canadian dollars must be drawn on a bank located in Canada.
Note 2: Financial instruments issued from PRC branches of the Bank of China will NOT be accepted (financial instruments from Hong Kong branches of the Bank of China will be accepted).

其中，有一句"Payment in Canadian dollars must be drawn on a bank located in Canada. "不太清楚是否一定要加拿大銀行在台分行開的匯票才可以，就上網查了一下台北有哪些加拿大銀行，結果，非常稀少......。打去詢問加拿大豐業銀行詢問是否有開匯票服務，對方回答說，服務對象只限於有帳戶客戶(嗯，是一家阿跩銀行)，想來香港辦事處應該不太可能有這樣要求。就上宅宅的資料庫ptt上看了一下前人的經驗，原來一般大型銀行的匯票就可以了。只是，不同銀行對於購買匯票的要求也不太一樣：
中國信託，可以用台幣現金購買，如果帳戶有外幣，也可以直接扣款購買，手續費500元。但比較麻煩的是要帶存簿，印章跟身份證。台灣銀行就方便多了，帶著台幣跟身份證臨櫃購買即可，但不接受由帳戶直接扣款就是了，手續費300元。
相衡之下，就選擇去台灣銀行買啦。
購買匯票，除了要知道購買金額外，最重要就是要寫抬頭(也就是取款人)，這裡的取款人就是Canadian Consulate General，打上去後，只有取款人本人才能領錢，算是相對安全的付費方式。接著，行員問我要選擇加拿大哪間銀行，我才知道"Payment in Canadian dollars must be drawn on a bank located in Canada. "的意思，我要指定一家加拿大銀行好將錢放進去(大概是吧...@@)。有兩家銀行可供選擇，多倫多道明銀行(Toronto Dominion Bank) 跟豐業銀行(Bank of Nova Scotia)。香港辦事處似乎並無規定，行員說前者比較大，就選了前者囉。

費用CAD125元，換成台幣是3709元...好像比原本在台北辦3750便宜一點點...(該高興嗎...@@)

整個流程到我拿票走人大概10多分鐘吧，很快。

台灣人要辦加拿大學生簽證?請到香港

昨天正準備要辦學生visa時,熊熊發現台北辦事處竟然不再辦簽證了!
真是讓人錯愕，完全沒有任何通知，說關就關，簡直形同工廠惡性倒閉，捲款走人行徑...
今天一大早就打去外交部北美司詢問，他們也是才知道這樣的訊息，兩手一攤說他們沒有辦法處理，只能靠學生自救，還一直幫加拿大政府解釋，要我們考量他們的情況。(怒!)


總之，我已經寫信給辦事處人員，跟他們反應這件事情已經造成台灣學生對加拿大的負面觀感，且造成很大的不便，希望能有其他配套措施。順道一提，他們辦事處是不接受電話詢問的，只接受電子信件詢問，信箱地址是 tapei@international.gc.ca 。


根據網頁上所說 文件都要郵寄到香港辦事處，且不需要面試，會很"容易"....


說真的，容易個鬼! 坐個公車就可以辦好的事情，要補什麼回家拿就是了，現在要跨海郵寄文件，如果缺東西就還要再寄一次，這叫容易嘛(又怒!)

加拿大駐台北貿易辦事處簽證組關閉

由於大多數台灣民眾短期去加拿大不再需要簽證，加拿大駐台北貿易辦事處簽證組現對外關閉，並不再受理新的簽證申請。需要其他移民服務的台灣民眾，如工作和學生簽證或申請永久居民，從現在起由加拿大駐香港的移民辦事處提供服務。請到香港簽證組網站查詢有關簽證和移民服務的資訊，並下載申請表格。如欲取得有關世界其他地方在哪裡申請的更多資訊，請到加拿大公民與移民部 (CIC) 網站查詢。

已經向台北簽證組遞交申請的人請注意

我們會立即把在台北收到的永久居民申請轉交到香港。
一直到2011年6月17日，我們會繼續審理下列已經收到的申請：

• 短期停留簽證
• 工作簽證
• 學生簽證，和
• 永久居民旅行證。

 如果您已申請上述簽證之一，我們或者對您的申請作出決定，或者通知您申請已轉去香港。無論如何，您都會從其中一個辦事處聽到消息。

大勢底定(perhaps...)

經過了一段不短時間的考試加申請的過程，中間也經過了一些心情上的轉折，加拿大似乎變成了我的最後歸宿。

有時候，命運就是這麼奇妙，一剛開始，自己僅僅是想出國透個氣，想要多增加自己商業方面的的知識與經驗，而決定出國就讀MBA。我很清楚自己並不像其他早有立定出國志向，闖一番大事業的菁英份子，我沒有家大業大的背景，沒有大公司的經歷，沒有跨國工作經驗...英文也一向是我的痛腳。原本想申請個美國地名學校，好好讀個兩年，就回老家找工作。沒想到，申請並不如我想像得那樣straightforward，發生很多事情，也讓自己徹底檢視自己當初想要出國讀書的動機。幸運的是，即使遇到諸多的不順心，我還是深深相信，決定出國是一項正確的選擇。如果沒有遇到這麼多困難，自己就不會想要改變，也不會發現，自己真的需要改變。

即使只是開始踏入有關MBA的領域，我所接收到的資訊與刺激，就已經非常不同於過去我所接觸到的環境。那是一個陌生的，全新的知識網絡。我遇到許多極為優秀的人，大多數都以悠然自在的方式展現他們的優異能力，這使我感到自己的渺小與有限。但，與此同時，我也看到許多優秀的人在能力與思考上的侷限性，不論再優秀，都有各自的問題要解決，也不是一路順遂的。如果說這過程我看到了很多，學到了很多，其中一項就是:沒有人是完美的! 每個人都有他獨特的地方，也有他不足的地方，不需太過自傲，也不需要太過謙卑。我很喜歡"不卑不亢"這詞，某種程度來說，就是我想要維持的與人相處的態度。不論你面對的是已經獲得巨大成功的人，或是社會地位不如你的人，都能維持一貫的態度，處之泰然。

一個階段的結束，就是下一個階段的開始，到開學之前，感覺有一大票的事情要處理...但現在好像只想放空...哈!

最近是各大商學院寄送申請結果的日子，大部分的人應該只想將錄取信公諸於世，拒絕信就默默知道就好，最好當成一切都沒發生過...其實，我也很想這樣看過就忘了，但想到老娘我也是花了一番心血準備，砸了大筆美金來申請的...只是，成為了成千上萬砲灰的其中一枚...嗚嗚~後來想想，就算只留下了一點點楂，也想要保存下來做個紀念，安慰自己: 我也是申請過名校的呢...囧

Wharton interview 流程與心得

從收到學校面試邀請開始，每天念茲在茲，惶惶不安，忽喜忽悲...就是為了這次的面試...囧

從網路上的面試經驗分享知道今年Wharton的interview方式有重大的變更。簡而言之，原則就是統一全世界面試官評分的標準(題組與評分標準可參考這裡)。此外，也免去了Why MBA? Why Wharton? Why you?的基本問題，學校希望能夠從實際案例中瞭解申請者是否fit Wharton。

學校的邀請信如下:

The status of your application has been updated and you have been invited to interview with the Wharton MBA Admissions Office. (Please look for the link to the letter inviting you to interview located at the bottom of the main page of your online application account.)
Please log into your Wharton account and select "Search" in the Events box to the right on the main page. Next select an interview type (On-Campus or Alumni) and proceed to schedule your interview. Please read the instructions given for each type of interview very carefully.

其實信裡頭已經解釋得很清楚了。申請者進入學校申請系統，搜尋Events後，會問你要用哪一種方式面試，如果選Alumni，要選擇在哪一個國家面試(這個貼心的選擇，讓不在國內的申請者可以在全世界完成面試，不過我傻傻得沒順便看看其他國家的Alumni就是了...)。我選擇在Taiwan面試，只有一個城市可以選就是Taipei。學校會給大約2-3位interviewer 供申請者選，如果這個interviewer沒空，可以趕緊選另一個。學校會給申請者頗充裕的時間約校友，我的經驗是，發信詢問校友可否答應幫忙interview，校友都會很快地回覆可以或不可以，好給申請者足夠的時間再約下一個或是回覆學校。如果約好interview時間後，申請者要再登入系統，回覆學校是跟哪一位校友面試及何時面試(學校會給deadline，一定要那之前讓interviewer上傳面試結果，不然會影響資格)。回覆學校之後，校友才會收到學校寄來的評分系統，完成後續的作業。

面試是晚上7點，一大早5點多被我媽的電話吵起來，要幫外公掛號，想去睡個回籠覺時，7點多又被電話吵起來...這樣折騰老半天，就睡不著了，還是早點繼續準備interview好了。我們面試地點在會議室，顯然校友是臨時抽空幫我面試，因為他說晚上9點還有事情(我後來才知道校友連晚餐都還沒吃就幫我面試了，因為面試完校友說得要去抓點晚餐吃，我們就一邊聊校友就胡亂解決了晚餐，真的是太辛苦了....@@)。

一剛開始，校友解釋學校面試規定，有3個題組，每個題組都要問一個問題。我被問到的題目如下：

1. Describe a time when you have been working toward the completion of an important task, when it has been necessary to consider the opinions and feelings of others.

2. Describe a time when you have worked with others to complete an important task, when there was no formally appointed group leader.

3. Describe a time when your ideas have been challenged by others, requiring you to defend your opinions.

還好，這些問題都有準備到，所以還算答得出來。但因為我的背景跟一般申請者很不一樣，有些細節校友不很清楚，會再follow up，例如：校友就再進一步問，可否給我明確的數字?妳怎麼確定妳的判斷是正確的....等等。因為整個過程還蠻像在聊天，所以，有些細節就記不太清楚了...囧。基本上interviewer的責任就是要確認學校想知道的部份都有被問到，而申請者最好就是將你的故事很細地想過一遍。有時候，不一定要豐功偉業，豪洨得太誇張，大家都是台灣人，校友會感覺得出來滴...

面試結束之後，我才知道學校發邀請信的同時，也會發一封信給所有在interviewer list上的校友，通知他們最近可能會有申請者跟他們聯繫要進行面試。這位校友在前2輪時，總共收到10封學校寄的通知信，而第3輪呢，只有1封，就是我!!果然，第3輪真的沒啥人申請了...囧

對於Wharton我始終有特殊的感情，這間以finance 著名的學校，對於我這個完全沒有商業底子，也對做IB跟private equity, hedge fund 完全沒有興趣的MBA菜鳥，產生興趣。為什麼會這樣，我也著實思考了一陣子。只是，越是思索，就越覺得這個兩百年名校有其歷久彌新的競爭力與豐富的歷史文化。Wharton出名的強調diversity，即使GMAT不到600還是可能被錄取，更是彰顯出申請者只要有潛力，學校不吝於給機會。接下來，就是要看這個申請者能不能好好把握這個機會，讓學校看到自己的企圖心與能力。

有太多人連面試都沒拿到，而我，何其幸運，不只有這機會，還有兩次機會...我相信在面對Wharton，我真的有努力了。我努力瞭解學校的好，也努力讓學校瞭解我的好。但我相信，我努力還遠遠不足，只希望上天能再給我一個機會，在接下來兩年，甚至是這一輩子，繼續發掘更多的驚喜!

waive不等於waitlist...Kellogg的回覆

由於之前學校表示台灣找不到校友可以幫忙interview，就先waive我的interview。有些申請者可能跟我一樣會擔心是否會影響錄取。於是，我就寫了一封信，跟學校講說校友都沒空也沒關係，跟Adcom面試也是okay的啦...於是，學校就回給我一封信，要我放心別想太多：

Hello xx,

Thank you for your email.  Please be assured that an interview waiver will not negatively affect your application.  If we feel an interview would be helpful in further assessing a candidate or would aid in rendering a decision, we will contact the applicant to schedule a telephone interview.   Applicants may not request a telephone interview; we will invite waived candidates for telephone interviews throughout each application round. Many of our admitted students initially received an interview waiver and were subsequently contacted for a telephone interview.

Kellogg waive 我的interview 囧

收到Kellogg通知，waive我的interview。雖然之前就知道申請Kellogg的interview不是必須的，但收到這樣的信，心裡頭還是有一些揣測不安。由於我是最後一輪申請，台灣，甚至是中國的申請人數勢必大幅降低，學校很可能根本就不安排當地校友面試。但，也有另一種可能，就是今年申請最後一輪的人突然增多，校友忙不過來，就先waive申請者的interview。

不論哪一種可能，沒有直接拿到interview的心情真是七上八下...

Schulich商學院-面試心得

加拿大約克(York)大學的Schulich(發音為蘇力克)商學院是2011年第一家面試我的學校。承蒙上天保佑，拿到了offer還有幸拿到了22000美金的獎學金! 原本想說默默留在心理當成淡淡的回憶就好了，但這過程其實也有些有趣的地方，很想跟朋友分享~

面試官是一位審查委員，名叫Carol。之前在網路上搜尋面經，發現大多數面試者的面試官都是她(可能專門負責亞洲學生吧~)，聽說人很nice，實際面試的結果，人真的很nice喔~

我們是透過Skype通話，一剛開始我還以為要開視訊，還穿很正式的服裝，不過，還好對方沒有要求。首先，我們先話家常一番，她問我今天如何，我說不錯，不過，台北很冷，她問多冷，我說15度(真尷尬，英文的攝氏"centigrade"熊熊說不出口...)，我馬上回問，聽說Toronto很冷，前一陣子還有blowing snow是嗎?(為了這段還特別去查了新聞...果真用上了，大心~)，她馬上說沒錯，現在那邊是零度...我說wow...我有朋友住Toronto，還是你們的校友，她說，好消息是我會習慣冷天氣的....Carol小姐就笑了...接著就進入interview。

她要我先自我介紹，接著問Why MBA? Why Schlich? Why now?還有一些也是標準interview的問題，大概都有準備到，所以回應上沒有太大問題。但中間還是有出鎚的情況...其中有一題，我的背景能夠為 Schulich貢獻什麼，太好了!我最希望問到這題，才能顯出我背景的特殊性。但，我竟然熊熊找不到那題的note!急死我也~~~還好，最後還是化險為夷，對方沒有起疑(等到結束之後才找到，鬼遮眼了嘛~~)。還有一題讓我有些措手不及，就是我如何發揮我們團隊的潛力。這題我沒有準備到，只好用讓我們團隊無法發揮潛力的例子來說明，用反面故事來檔著先，雖然有點怪怪的，但親切的Carol小姐似乎也接受了。

她問我平常有機會用到英文嘛?我說我們公司不太需要，不過在執行Yahoo!活動時，我們有時需要跟他們美國的公司報告，會用到英文。我的英文還很不行，我會繼續加強的(她笑了，但不知道她笑的點就是了...^^")。她說我英文很不錯呀，也有很高的GMAT，但為什麼TOEFL成績無法反應出來呢?(靠，超犀利的...) 急中生智的我就說：那是因為我不喜歡跟電腦說話，我比較喜歡跟真人說話。對方就笑了，說她可以理解，因為她也是(呼...危機解除...)

她還問到我如何得知Schulich，我說我有一個朋友是Schulich的大學部校友，分享了很多Schulich的有趣故事，朋友跟我說Toronto很多很棒的亞洲餐廳，不過，大多數是香港跟韓國菜，我說，台灣菜似乎不是那麼popular，太可惜了~我順道問Carol喜歡亞洲食物嘛~她說她喜歡吃泰國菜。泰國菜!! 太棒了，完全不知道該怎麼接話....orz 只好說，wow~我媽也是最喜歡吃泰國菜耶，每次我們一起出去吃飯都會找泰國餐廳...完全一個唬爛...


她一直誇獎我的學業背景很優秀，她們決定要給我offer! 我一時間還不太相信我的耳朵 (雖然網路上有提到面試完就給offer)，還再問了一次，你們馬上就可以確定了嘛~!她說是的，他們過兩天會寄正式的admission letter給我，我說我等不及了! 然後就互道再見~

最近仍在準備其他學校的interview，雖然有些煩燥，但看到網路上有人分享準備西班牙IESE的interview的感想，心有慼慼焉呀：(以下節錄於網路)

IESE的面試果真是從成長過程開始問，是我很欣賞的方式，雖然從準備MBA開始，就不斷的面對各種排山倒海的問題，要絞盡腦汁回想過去30年做過的事...在最後準備面試的這幾天已經對這些問題感到超級不耐煩...:P

面試過後，反而覺得，居然透過視訊系統跟一個第一次見面的西班牙校友在一個小時的面談中分享這麽多personal的信息，這不是很妙嗎?長這麽大，即便是很熟的朋友，也不太會有人問你 "是在什麽樣的背景長大" 之類的問題。講到這邊，是要鼓勵大家，雖然準備面試是有壓力的，但從另一個角度來看，你付了很貴的申請費至少換來一人花一小時時間認真了解你，並聽你講述人生史，不是也挺有趣嗎? 請認真的準備，並正面的享受這過程，大家加油!

現在我覺得透過這些痛苦的申請過程，倒是讓我在30歲的一開始好好徹底的回顧了我的人生，現在有種經曆一番洗禮，頓時很期待未來的挑戰!

申請MBA不可不知的CV技巧!

說來慚愧，今年申請都快結束了，還在改我自己的CV。實在是因為之前太懶了，都交給編輯，結果，對於申請MBA的簡歷的規範還是一知半解。這一陣子整個再review自己的CV跟勤查網路上針對MBA的CV的說明，總算有個初步的概念。其中，有一篇我真的覺得寫得超棒，值得給個"讚"! 我就直接轉錄過來了，以下是轉錄內容：

1) Describe "achievements" rather than "responsibilities". Right now it looks like a well-written yet rather plain job decription, not something that gets the adcom excited and makes them want to know more about the candidate.
IMHO, a CV/resume for b-school application differs from what is used for job application--it should portrait the candidate's career progresses and professional milestones, rather than his/her work experience and technical/business skills.
So how do you give it a make-over? -- Numbers speak louder than text. Try to use sentences like "achieved xx% of growth in revenue", "doubled client base in one year", etc. For example, in the decription of your previous job, you gave an example using numbers/percentages. It immediately caught my attention. Try to do the same with your current job, because the adcom will start reading from there and usually if they don't see a good example of achievement by the third or even second bullet point, they will lose interest.

2) Need to use more "powerful" verbs. Currently the tone is a bit weak and again, sounds like a job description. It does not show your unique contribution so why would YOU be chosen, not some of your colleagues who are doing similar work?
B-school adcom wants to find traits of leadership potential and pro-active attitude in the candidate. So, show them these qualities by describing how you "drove/managed" a project, "created" a new working method, "initiated" an exciting plan, and "led" a team.
Even if you are not in a leadership/management role, think about how you affected outcomes positively by causing others to act in their best. Made a difference, basically.

3) Refrain from the urge of providing too much info. Rearrange/prioritize your "selling points" and make the key ones stand out by trimming the unnecessary details.
Right now each job description contains 5+ bullets and many of them are longer than three lines. Is that really necessary? You are not interviewing for a job so your reader does not need to know EVERYTHING you've done. The adcom just want to know, in the 90 seconds that they spend on average reading a resume, "what this person wants to tell me about him/herself?" and "what makes him/her shine?"
Suggestion: Cut down to 3-4 or fewer bullets per position and clean up words that only provide info rather than paint a portrait of a unique you.

4) Finally, all verbs in a CV/resume must be in past tense even if it's about your current job.
And don't use the phrase "responsible for" which sounds too passive. For example, instead of "Responsible for devising ABC strategies and executing DEF plans", say "Devised ABC strategies and executed DEF plans". Much neater and more powerful, isn't it?
